The Central government has notified April 16, 2026 as the date on which the provisions of the Constitution (One Hundred and Sixth Amendment) Act, 2023 will come into force.
The 106th Constitutional Amendment Act popularly known as the Women’s Reservation Act or Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam provides for one-third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha, State Legislative Assemblies, and the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
The law inserts new provisions such as Articles 330A and 332A to operationalise reservation for women, including within seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. It also introduces Article 334A, which provides that the reservation will operate for a period of 15 years, subject to extension by Parliament.
