An AI-powered law firm, Garfield AI, has secured a court victory in England in what is believed to be the first successful case substantially handled by an AI lawyer.

The case involved freelance HR consultant who used Garfield AI to recover an unpaid debt of £7,000. While a human barrister appeared in court, the AI platform handled the pre-trial legal work, including drafting witness statements and preparing the trial bundle.

Following a three-hour hearing before Wandsworth County Court, the Court ruled in Consultant’s favour and awarded her the money owed.
