Bar Council Complaint Against Opposing Tier 1 Law Firm Filed Amid High Court’s Adverse Observations Against Complainant

BCI concern advocate custody order

A complaint has been filed before the Bar Council of India against a Senior Advocate and a Tier 1 Law Firm, alleging professional misconduct, suppression of material facts, fabrication of evidence, conflict of interest and other ethical violations in connection with litigation pending before the Bombay High Court.

The complaint seeks disciplinary action under the Advocates Act, 1961 and alleges, among other things, suppression of material facts, fabrication of evidence, abuse of legal process and obstruction of justice.

The complaint arises from proceedings pending before the Bombay High Court. In a series of orders passed between April and June 2026, the High Court restrained the complainant from making statements against IIT Bombay and its advocates, while permitting him to raise grievances before the appropriate authorities. The Court subsequently recorded a prima facie view that its directions had not been complied with and later directed seizure of all electronic devices and issued a bailable warrant to secure the complainant’s presence.

Against this backdrop, the complainant has now approached the Bar Council of India seeking disciplinary action against the advocates representing IIT Bombay.
