The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to an accused for running a fake embassy and allegedly defrauding individuals by impersonating diplomatic entities in Ghaziabad.
The Court noted that the investigation in the case has been completed and a chargesheet has already been filed, observing that no further custodial interrogation of the accused was required. It also took into account that the prosecution could not effectively rebut the defence’s submissions during the hearing.
According to the FIR, the accused was allegedly operating an unauthorized “embassy” by displaying foreign flags, using diplomatic number plates, and possessing forged documents, passports, and seals. However, the defence argued that several of the seized items, including passports and number plates, were merely ceremonial or novelty items issued by micronations and were not used for any official or fraudulent purpose.
The High Court, while refraining from commenting on the merits of the case, held that considering the nature of allegations, evidence on record, and completion of investigation, a case for grant of bail was made out. The accused has been directed to cooperate with the trial and comply with standard bail conditions, including not tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses.
