Bengaluru Court Grants Conditional Bail to Actor Prakash Raj in Multiple Voter ID Case

Multiple Voter ID Bail

A Bengaluru court on Friday granted conditional bail to actor and politician Prakash Raj in a case alleging that he possessed multiple voter identity cards in violation of the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

The order was passed by the Chief Judicial Magistrate CJM) Jyoti Shantappa Kale after the actor appeared before the court pursuant to a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against him. The court recalled the warrant and granted bail subject to conditions.

The case originates from a private complaint filed in 2019 by advocate K. Dileep Kumar before the Halasuru Gate Police Station. The complainant alleged that Prakash Raj was enrolled as a voter in multiple electoral rolls, holding voter identity cards in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and another State, in contravention of election laws, which permit a person to be registered as a voter only at one place. According to the complaint, the actor had allegedly concealed this information while filing election-related documents. The allegations are stated to constitute violations under the Representation of the People Act.

The 48th ACJM Court had earlier issued summons to the actor in February 2026. After he failed to appear despite repeated opportunities, the court successively issued non-bailable warrants, the latest being on June 12, 2026. Friday’s order came after Prakash Raj appeared before the court and sought bail.

The criminal proceedings will now continue before the trial court in accordance with law.
