The Judicial Infrastructure Advisory Committee constituted by Chief Justice of India on May 12, 2026, has submitted its interim report on court modernisation to the CJI on August 31. The Committee, headed by Supreme Court Justice Aravind Kumar, was tasked with preparing a roadmap to address infrastructural deficiencies and strengthen the justice delivery system across the country.

The Committee also comprises Justice Debangsu Basak of the Calcutta High Court, Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra of the Punjab & Haryana High Court and Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan of the Bombay High Court, along with CPWD Director General Satinder Pal Singh and Supreme Court Secretary General Bharat Parashar as Member Secretary.

Its mandate included identifying infrastructure constraints faced by courts and recommending facilities for judges, court staff, lawyers, litigants and visitors. The Committee was also tasked with recommending measures for court computerisation under the e-Courts initiative, citizen-centric services, steps to bridge the digital divide, modern court complexes and improved working conditions for judicial and administrative staff.

The interim report was submitted within the Committee’s mandated deadline of August 31, 2026, and is intended to provide a blueprint for securing substantial government funding for modernisation of courts across the country.
