The Rouse Avenue Court on Monday issued notice on an appeal filed by four women wrestlers challenging the acquittal of former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the sexual harassment case. The wrestlers have also challenged the acquittal of former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar.

The matter was heard by Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh at the Rouse Avenue Courts, which has now listed it for hearing on October 9, 2026.

The appeal challenges the August 3, 2026 order of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar, by which Singh and Tomar were acquitted. The trial court had acquitted them citing insufficient evidence and inconsistencies in the prosecution case.

In their appeal, the wrestlers have contended that the acquittal order is “unsustainable in law” and rests on what they describe as a selective and erroneous appreciation of the evidence. They have further alleged that the trial court relied on stereotypical assumptions regarding how victims of sexual harassment are expected to behave.

The case arose from complaints by six women wrestlers, following which the Delhi Police filed a chargesheet against Singh under provisions of the IPC relating to outraging the modesty of a woman, sexual harassment, stalking and criminal intimidation.
