Delhi HC Directs Provision of SHO’s Personal Contact Number in Plea Seeking Police Protection Against Threat by Unknown Women

Laxmi Devi & Ors. v. Union of India & Ors. [Decided on 23-04-2026]

Delhi High Court

In a writ petition filed before the Delhi High Court seeking the grant of safety and security to the petitioners’ family by providing adequate police protection, and to direct the respondents to ensure that no threat, coercion, or harm is extended to the petitioners regarding the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Uttam Nagar police station, a Single Judge Bench of Justice Girish Kathpalia disposed of the petition after taking note of the steps being taken by the respondents.

Apart from the above-mentioned prayers, the petitioners also sought directions to direct the respondents to remove and delete all threatening and communally provocative videos regarding the incident from all social media platforms.

The present petition alleged that on 13-04-2026, a few unknown women, with covered faces, threatened petitioner 1. It was also asserted that on 09-04-2026, the husband of one of the women broke the lock on the house and took away the belongings. The respondents submitted that the local police were active and would ensure the best possible protection for the petitioners, that CCTV cameras had already been installed in the neighbourhood, and that police pickets had been established to ensure communal harmony.

The Court requested the DCP to direct the SHO concerned to provide his personal phone number to the petitioners so that they may contact him in times of distress. The Additional DCP informed the Court that they had already pulled down more than 250 videos from social media platforms, hence, the Court directed the petitioners to furnish the details of such videos, so that appropriate action could be taken.

Regarding the complaint dated 13-04-2026, the respondents submitted that the local police had already collected relevant material, including video footage, and that the same was being inquired into by an officer of ACP rank.

The Court noted the petitioners’ satisfaction with the steps being taken and disposed of the petition.
