CJP Spokesperson Saurav Das Moves Delhi High Court Over Disclosure of Home Address, Private Details

Delhi HC Privacy Protection Suit

Journalist and Right to Information activist Saurav Das has instituted a suit seeking protection of his privacy, dignity and security, alleging that the defendants unlawfully discovered, recorded, published and repeatedly disseminated his residential address and other sensitive personal information.

According to the plaint, Das has been residing at the ground floor of a property in Greater Kailash-I, Delhi, since early 2025. He states that while the entire ground floor is owned by his landlord, he has leased one room along with the right of access to common areas, with other portions occupied by individuals including a senior citizen and school-going children.

The plaint alleges that the defendants disclosed his precise residential address and sensitive information concerning his background, parents and sexuality. Das has stated that, owing to his journalistic work, RTI activism and political engagement, he has previously faced violent threats and targeted hostility, making repeated disclosure of his home address a foreseeable security risk.

The suit further alleges that representatives of Defendant No. 1 trespassed into the shared residential premises, recorded portions of the premises and its interiors, and subsequently published the recording on X on August 5, 2026. The video allegedly specifically disclosed Das’s home address and had garnered more than 2.1 million views, before being republished on August 10, 2026.

Das has sought permanent and mandatory injunctions, damages and other consequential reliefs, alleging intrusion into and publication of details concerning his private life.
