The Delhi Police has arrested two law students from Lucknow University in connection with last week’s disruption of proceedings inside the Supreme Court, during which one of the accused hurled abusive remarks at the Chief Justice of India, threw case papers inside the courtroom and created a commotion.
The accused have been identified as Prabal Pratap Singh and another law student, who were apprehended following an investigation into the incident that occurred during the hearing of a petition before a Bench of the Supreme Court.
According to the police, the accused were arrested after technical and field investigation. Several pamphlets containing objectionable and abusive material were allegedly recovered from their possession. They were produced before a Delhi court, which remanded them to two days’ police custody for further investigation.
The FIR invokes provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to obstructing a public servant in discharge of official duty, intentionally insulting a public servant, assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging official functions, and common intention, among other offences.
