The International Bar Association (IBA) Young Lawyers’ Committee will host the Next Gen Legal Summit: Legal Profession in Transition – Reimagining Practice, Technology and Dispute Resolution on November 27, 2026, at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi.
The summit will examine how technology, evolving client expectations and developments in dispute resolution are reshaping the legal profession, with sessions focusing on law-firm careers, cross-border practice, artificial intelligence and international arbitration.
The programme will open with a keynote address by Justice Tejas Karia of the Delhi High Court, following welcome remarks by Pranav Srivastava, Co-Chair of the IBA Young Lawyers’ Committee. Arush Khanna, Membership Officer of the Committee, will deliver the vote of thanks.
One of the sessions, titled “Associate to Rainmaker – What No One Tells You About Becoming Partner”, will explore the transition from being a technically proficient associate to becoming a commercially successful partner. Discussions will cover the differences between salaried and equity partnerships, developing client relationships, building a book of business, billing judgment, team management and client communication. Pallavi Shroff of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co will be the keynote speaker for this session, moderated by Pranav Srivastava.
The summit will also feature “The Future of Dispute Resolution – The Progressive Pathway”, a presentation-led session examining emerging challenges in international arbitration. Topics will include the impact of sanctions and geopolitics on arbitration, party autonomy versus institutional control, specialised arbitration rules, emergency arbitration and the role of cross-examination.
The session will feature Caroline Falconer of the SCC Arbitration Institute, Eliane Fischer of the Swiss Arbitration Centre, Agis Georgiades of Christos Georgiades & Associates, Montek Mayal of Osborne Partners and Neeti Sachdeva of the Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration. Arush Khanna and Oindrila Mukherjee of Dentons Link Legal will moderate the session.
A separate session, “Beyond Borders: Building a Cross-Border Practice”, will focus on developing international professional networks, expanding visibility across jurisdictions and attracting cross-border clients. It will be moderated by Alipak Banerjee of Alipak Banerjee Law Chambers, with Ajra Azhar of Colombo Associates, Shashwat Bajpai of DRSB Law Chambers and Saroj Ghimire of Himalayan Lawyers and Associates as speakers.
The summit will also address the growing influence of artificial intelligence on legal work through an open-house discussion titled “AI Native Lawyer”. The session will examine how AI is changing legal research, drafting and workflow automation, while considering the future of AI-enabled law firms, the role of legal associates, and the importance of trust, ethics and professional responsibility.
The programme will conclude with an Oxford-style debate on the motion: “This House Believes That the Nationality of an Arbitrator Is a Legitimate Basis for Challenging Impartiality in Disputes Involving a State Engaged in Geopolitical Conflict.” The debate will feature Senior Advocate Ritin Rai and Leonora Riesenburg of 4–5 Gray’s Inn Square, Dubai. Sumeer Sodhi of VSA Legal will moderate, while Pinky Anand and Lalit Bhasin will serve as judges.
