In a writ petition filed before the Madras High Court seeking directions for the respondents to secure the postal votes belonging to No. 185, Tiruppattur Assembly constituency, which were wrongly sent to No. 50, Tiruppattur Assembly constituency in the elections conducted for the 17th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly held on 23-04-2026, a Division Bench of Justice L. Victoria Gowri and Justice N. Senthilkumar directed the filing of an affidavit for the same.
K.R. Periakaruppan (petitioner), a DMK leader, asserted that a postal ballot meant for the Tiruppattur Assembly Constituency in Sivaganga district was mistakenly sent to the Tiruppattur constituency in Tiruppattur district, because of which K.R. Periakaruppan lost by one vote. Hence, the petitioner sought that the wrongly sent votes belonging to No. 185, Tiruppattur Assembly constituency, be accounted for.
The Court directed the Chief Electoral Officer and the Principal Secretary to the Government, Public (Elections) Department to file an affidavit, especially regarding the action taken on the petitioner’s email dated 05-05-2026.
