Madras HC Issues Notice in Election Petitions Challenging Tamil Nadu CM Vijay’s Wins From Perambur, Trichy East

Election Petitions Notice Issued

The Madras High Court on Tuesday issued notice in election petitions challenging the election of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay from the Perambur and Tiruchirappalli (East) Assembly constituencies in the 2026 Assembly elections. The Court also issued notice in a petition challenging the election of Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Aadhav Arjuna from the Villivakkam constituency.

The matters came up before Justice V. Lakshminarayana, who noted that the petitions were deficient in certain ministerial requirements, including the filing of Form 25. The petitioners have been granted one week’s time to cure the defects.

The Court directed that notice be made returnable within three weeks after compliance with the ministerial requirements. Considering that election petitions are required to be disposed of expeditiously, preferably within six months, the Court also permitted the petitioners to effect private service of notice on the respondents, in addition to service through the Registry.
