The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notice on a petition filed by the State Government challenging the grant of anticipatory bail to Former Judge Giribala Singh in connection with in the Twisha Sharma dowry death case.
Twisha Sharma, a former beauty pageant contestant and corporate professional from Noida, was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, barely months after her marriage to advocate Samarth Singh, son of retired judge Giribala Singh. Her family has alleged dowry harassment, mental cruelty and attempts to influence the investigation.
Appearing for the State, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that the trial court had granted anticipatory bail in an extremely hurried manner. According to the State, the death in the case took place on the night of May 12, 2026. The postmortem was conducted on May 13, the anticipatory bail plea was filed on May 14, and the trial court granted protection on May 15 itself.
Justice Avanindra Kumar Singh noted the submissions and directed the issuance of notice to the respondent. The Court ordered that a humdust notice be served upon payment of the process fee and made the matter returnable on or before May 25, 2026.
The matter is now scheduled to be heard on May 25 at 2:30 PM.
