The Punjab & Haryana High Court Bar Association has resolved to suspend court work till July 30, 2026, in support of the Joint Action Committee of Bar Associations of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh protesting against the implementation of the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) Policy. The decision was taken at a General House meeting held on July 28, 2026.
According to the notice, the General House unanimously resolved to issue a show cause notice to Advocate Arvind Seth (Enrolment No. P/1458/2005) for filing PIL No. 181 of 2026, stating that the act was contrary to the interests of the legal fraternity.
The Bar Association also resolved to request the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana to suspend the licences of LADC counsels across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, and to place the suspension order before the General House at its next meeting scheduled for July 30, 2026 at 12:00 PM.
Further, the General House decided to suspend work in the Punjab and Haryana High Court with immediate effect from July 28 till July 30, 2026 (both days inclusive). The Association stated that the future course of action on the LADC issue would be decided at the General House meeting on July 30, 2026.
