Punjab & Haryana High Court Keeps CBI Probe Option Open In Gagandeep Jammu Shooting Case, Says No Need At Present

Gagandeep Jammu shooting probe

A day after taking suo motu cognisance of the shooting at former Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association secretary Gagandeep Singh Jammu and the broader issue of court security, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday kept open the possibility of transferring the investigation to the CBI, while observing that such a step was not warranted at this stage.

The Division Bench indicated that it would continue monitoring the investigation and made it clear that the option of a central probe remains available depending on how the inquiry progresses.

The Court is hearing the matter in a suo motu case initiated following the attack on Jammu, which also triggered concerns over the safety of members of the Bar and security arrangements around the High Court.

In the previous hearing, the Court had directed round-the-clock security for Jammu, including deployment of armed personal security officers and continuous PCR patrolling near his residence. The State of Punjab, which is investigating the FIR registered in connection with the incident, has been asked to apprise the Court of the progress in the probe.
