The Supreme Court has appointed Senior Advocate Shadan Farasat and Advocate Udai Khanna as amicus curiae on a pro bono basis to assist the Court in proceedings concerning the Punjab drug menace. The Court also directed the Registry to provide the complete paperbook to the amicus curiae and listed the matter for August 12, 2026.

The Bench of Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Augustine George Masih was hearing the matter. The Court recorded that the prosecution evidence in the FIR had been completed, and the matter was fixed for recording the statements of the co-accused. The trial concerning one of the accused had been segregated. The appointment of Farasat and Khanna comes as the Court continues to examine the broader issues arising from the Punjab proceedings, with the amicus curiae tasked with assisting the Bench in the matter.
