The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice on a plea filed by Anita Bose Pfaff, daughter of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, seeking directions for bringing his mortal remains from Japan to India.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana heard the plea and issued notice to the concerned respondents.
The petition seeks the repatriation of Netaji’s mortal remains from Japan to India, where his final rites could be performed. Netaji’s ashes have been kept at Renkoji Temple in Tokyo, where they have remained since 1945.
Anita Bose Pfaff has previously appealed for the return of her father’s remains to India, stating that his remains had remained outside the country for decades. In January this year, she called upon Indians who continue to revere Netaji to support his return to India for a final and fitting disposal.
