Supreme Court to Hear State’s Pleas Seeking Modification of Taj Trapezium Zone Directions Next Week

Taj Trapezium Zone Directions

The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to list next week applications filed by the Union Government and the Uttar Pradesh Government seeking modification of its directions governing industries in the Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ).

During the mentioning before a Bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana, the State of Uttar Pradesh submitted that an application seeking modification of the Court’s October 2024 directions prohibiting new industries and expansion of existing industries in the TTZ had been pending for some time.

The State informed the Court that a comprehensive vision document had been prepared dealing with industrial activity in the Taj Trapezium Zone and requested that all connected applications and reports be heard together. Additional Solicitor General R Venkatramani submitted:

“State of U.P. has a serious concern. We have filed an application seeking some modification to the order… There is a vision document with respect to industries. All of those could be listed together.”

The Bench noted that it had recently been apprised, in another matter, that even green category industries were unable to function because of the existing directions.

The Court observed that the applications filed by the Union and the State, along with the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) reports, should be considered holistically. The Bench thereafter agreed to list the batch next week, observing that all connected matters concerning the Taj Trapezium Zone would be taken up together for consideration.
