The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its verdict in a batch of petitions challenging the requirement of three years’ practice at the Bar as a prerequisite for recruitment to the post of Civil Judge (Junior Division). The Court also permitted the Karnataka High Court to withdraw its recruitment notification and issue a fresh advertisement in accordance with law.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Augustine George Masih and Justice K. Vinod Chandran heard the matters. During the hearing, the Court allowed the intervention application, permitting the Karnataka High Court to withdraw its Civil Judge recruitment advertisement and issue a fresh notification in accordance with law.

After hearing submissions from the parties, the Amicus Curiae, the Union of India, various High Courts and States, the Bench reserved judgment on the larger issues concerning judicial service recruitment, including the validity of the three-year practice requirement.
