Supreme Court Virtual Hearings

The Supreme Court today issued a notification that all matters listed on miscellaneous days and during partial working days will be heard exclusively through video conferencing until further orders. The direction has been issued through a circular dated May 15, 2026, by the Supreme Court Registry in view of an Office Memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

According to the circular dated May 15, 2026, “matters listed on miscellaneous days (i.e. on Mondays, Fridays, or such other days as declared to be miscellaneous), and matters listed during the Court’s partial working days, shall be heard by video-conferencing only.” The Registry has been directed to ensure timely sharing of VC links, stable connectivity and prompt technical assistance to avoid inconvenience to the Court.

The circular further states that Supreme Court judges have “unanimously resolved to encourage car-pooling arrangements amongst themselves” in order to ensure optimum utilisation of fuel.

In another significant administrative measure, the Court has permitted up to 50% of Registry staff in each branch or section to work from home for up to two days per week, subject to uninterrupted functioning of court administration. Registrars have been directed to prepare weekly rosters in advance and ensure that employees working remotely remain available on phone and report to the office whenever required.

The circular also authorises concerned Registrars to restrict or modify work-from-home arrangements if the nature of work in a particular branch requires physical presence.
