The Bar Council of India (BCI) has announced the schedule for the 24th Qualifying Examination for Indian nationals holding foreign law degrees. The examination will be conducted from July 15 to July 21, 2026, at the Bar Council of India’s premises located at 21, Rouse Avenue Institutional Area, New Delhi.
The examination will consist of six physical papers, each carrying 100 marks and having a duration of three hours. The examination will be held daily from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
The examination schedule is as follows:
- July 15, 2026 – Constitution of India
- July 16, 2026 – Contract Law & Negotiable Instruments Act
- July 17, 2026 – Company Law
- July 18, 2026 – Civil Procedure Code and Limitation Act
- July 20, 2026 – Criminal Procedure Code
- July 21, 2026 – The Indian Legal Profession and Code of Ethics.
The candidates who appeared in previous qualifying examinations but were unable to clear one or more papers may reappear only in the subjects they have not passed.
Examination-day Guide
No bare acts, books, notes, guides or study materials will be permitted for the first three papers, Constitution of India, Contract Law & Negotiable Instruments Act, and Company Law. For the remaining three papers, candidates may carry only individual bare acts without annotations or notes. Digests, guides and question-answer books will not be permitted.
Candidates have also been directed to deposit mobile phones, smart watches and other internet-enabled devices outside the examination hall. The candidates found cheating, engaging in unfair means, communicating with other candidates, or carrying prohibited materials may face cancellation of their examination and debarment from the process.
Applicants are required to carry their admit cards, original photo identity proof, and original educational documents for verification. Any discrepancy discovered at a later stage may result in cancellation of candidature and examination results.
The last date for submission of application forms is June 25, 2026, while the last date for payment of examination fees is July 5, 2026. The passing mark for each paper has been fixed at 45 out of 100.
