The Delhi High Court has issued notice on a contempt application filed by Gillette India Limited against Visage Lines Personal Care Pvt. Ltd. in proceedings concerning an advertisement alleged to be disparaging of Gillette.
The application was filed under Order XXXIX Rule 2-A read with Section 151 of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, alleging violation of an undertaking given by the defendant before the Court in relation to the original advertisement. Gillette submitted that despite the undertaking to take down the original advertisement, Visage had released a purportedly revised version containing essentially the same offending content.
Visage disputed the allegations, submitting that the revised advertisement was a reworked version of the original, did not contain the allegedly offending portions and was not disparaging of Gillette in law.

Upon a prima-facie viewing of the revised advertisement, Justice A.J. Bhambhani observed that there was no perceptible difference in the impact of the revised advertisement compared with the original advertisement.
The Court accordingly directed that Visage (Bombay Shaving company) shall not run the revised advertisement until the next date of hearing. The contempt application and Gillette’s interim injunction application are to be taken up on October 5, 2026.
