The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Land Acquisition Collector (LAC) to resolve the issue concerning the petitioners’ acquired land and place a detailed status report before the Court, warning that failure to do so could lead to a direction for payment of penal interest to the petitioners.
A Division Bench comprising Justice Prathiba M. Singh and Justice Vikas Mahajan was hearing a petition filed against the Union of India and other authorities.
The Court noted that meetings had been regularly held between the DDA and the LAC pursuant to its earlier order dated July 10, 2026. The LAC had also issued a clarificatory letter to the DDA seeking additional documents.
As the matter could not be taken up for hearing due to a time constraint, the Bench directed the DDA and LAC to resolve the issue by the next date of hearing and file a detailed status report. The Court made it clear that, failing compliance, it may direct payment of penal interest to the petitioners, as indicated in its previous order.
The DDA has further been directed to disclose in its status report how the petitioners’ acquired land was utilised and, if the land was subsequently sold, the amount recovered from such sale.
The Court also directed the Vice-Chairman, DDA to appear virtually on the next date to assist the Bench in the proceedings. The matter has been listed for September 9, 2026 at 2:30 PM.
