Reinforcing its commitment to advancing legal education through meaningful engagement with India’s foremost legal and public policy leaders, the Faculty of Law, Parul University, hosted an exclusive interactive session featuring Mr. Salman Khurshid, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, former Union Minister, distinguished parliamentarian, and acclaimed author. The session was held at The Leela Palace, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, as part of the University’s flagship Law Conclave & Gavel Glory Awards 2026, bringing together legal luminaries, academicians, practitioners, and aspiring legal professionals for a thought-provoking exchange of ideas.
Titled “Engaging Legal Minds,” the session offered students and members of the legal fraternity a unique opportunity to interact with one of India’s most respected constitutional thinkers. Drawing upon decades of experience in constitutional law, governance, diplomacy, and public service, Mr. Khurshid explored the evolving relationship between law, justice, and democratic values in contemporary India.
A central focus of the discussion was the distinction between “good law” and “bad law,” examining how legal validity must often be viewed alongside constitutional morality, public interest, and ethical governance. Mr. Khurshid encouraged participants to critically evaluate legislation beyond its textual framework, emphasizing that the legitimacy of law is strengthened when it aligns with constitutional principles and the broader ideals of justice.
The session also featured an engaging discussion on the role of morality in law, highlighting the responsibility of legal professionals to balance statutory interpretation with constitutional values, ethical reasoning, and the pursuit of justice. Students were encouraged to cultivate independent legal thinking while appreciating the dynamic nature of constitutional jurisprudence.
Addressing a contemporary legal issue, Mr. Khurshid discussed the recent clarification issued by the Ministry of External Affairs that a passport, by itself, does not constitute conclusive proof of Indian citizenship. The discussion generated meaningful dialogue on citizenship, documentary evidence, constitutional interpretation, and the legal distinction between identity documents and proof of citizenship, enabling students to better understand the practical application of legal principles in public discourse.
The interactive format of the session encouraged active participation, allowing students to engage directly with sir on constitutional law, public policy, legal ethics, advocacy, and the evolving challenges confronting the Indian legal system. His insights inspired participants to embrace legal practice with intellectual curiosity, professional integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
The distinguished guest was ceremonially welcomed by Mr. Shubhank Khare, Assistant Director, Faculty of Law, Parul University, along with Ms. Nivedita Chauhan, Founder and Managing Partner, NC Legal Advocates & Solicitors, whose presence underscored the collaborative efforts to create impactful academic platforms connecting legal education with professional excellence.
