The Supreme Court has issued notice on an application filed seeking directions to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to frame rules for the registration, regulation, and internal functioning of political parties in order to promote secularism, transparency, and political accountability.
Filed by Advocate Ashwini Kumar Dubey on behalf of petitioner Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, the application urges the Court to direct the ECI to ensure compliance with Sections 29A, 29B, and 29C of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which mandate political parties to uphold constitutional values and disclose funding sources.
The Court has sought the Centre’s and ECI’s response on the matter.
