Supreme Court Declines to Dwell on Shoe-Throwing Incident Targeting CJI Gavai; Says Focus Should Remain on Regular Judicial Work

CJI shoe incident

A Division Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi observed on Thursday that it would be more appropriate for the Court to continue with its regular judicial business rather than expend further time discussing the recent shoe-throwing incident involving Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai. The Bench noted that since CJI Gavai himself had expressed that he has moved past the episode, there was no need to deliberate further.

The observation came after Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Vikas Singh mentioned the matter before the Bench and requested that a criminal contempt case against the concerned lawyer be listed on Friday.
