A Bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana observed that in light of the Bihar judgment, no separate adjudication was required in the Tamil Nadu matters. Accordingly, the Court disposed of the petitions, while granting liberty to the petitioners to avail such other remedies as may be available in law.

The petitions had challenged the Election Commission’s decision to undertake a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, alleging that the exercise was arbitrary and could lead to the wrongful deletion of genuine voters from the electoral rolls.
