The Supreme Court today has indicated that it will seek a report from the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court on the functioning of appellate tribunals handling electoral roll issues in West Bengal.

Senior Advocate Devadatt Kamat informed the Bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi that tribunals were not functioning properly, lawyers were not being allowed to appear, and only online applications were being accepted.

Noting the concerns, the bench said it would seek a report from the Chief Justice the same day.
