The Attorney General for India has granted consent to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against Advocate Rakesh Kishore, who was involved in a recent incident of hurling a shoe at Supreme Court judge Justice B.R. Gavai. The act, which occurred within the courtroom premises, was viewed as an attempt to scandalize the judiciary and obstruct the administration of justice. Following the Attorney General’s consent, proceedings may now be initiated before the Supreme Court under Section 15 of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971.
