A video titled “Why are 75 judges on a vacation with the Union Law Minister, listen in to the inside story?” has been widely circulated on social media, creating the impression that dozens of judges were on a leisure trip with the Union Law Minister.
The claim, however, is false and misleading.
According to information available regarding the event, it was not a vacation but a badminton tournament and sporting event organised by Deka Events and AD Badminton Academy in association with Jindal Global University and the Ministry of Law and Justice.
Contrary to the impression created by the viral title and accompanying posts, the Union Law Minister was not present at the event, nor did the Chief Justice of India attend the tournament.
The event was attended by several distinguished personalities from the legal fraternity and public life, including Navin Jindal, Senior Advocate Pinky Anand, Arun Chawla, Justice Avneesh Saxena, Justice Tej Pratap Tiwari, and Anurag Bhadauria, among others. Their presence, however, does not lend any credence to the claim that the event was a “vacation” involving the Union Law Minister or a gathering of 75 judges.
Further, claims suggesting the participation of a large number of judges are inaccurate. Only two judges of the Allahabad High Court participated in the badminton event, and there is no evidence to support the assertion that “75 judges” attended a vacation with the Law Minister.
The event was a sports initiative aimed at promoting camaraderie and wellness within the legal fraternity and associated institutions, and not a government-sponsored holiday or judicial retreat.
The viral framing appears to conflate participation in a sporting event with a “vacation,” while also incorrectly suggesting the presence of the Union Law Minister and an unusually large judicial contingent. Such characterisation misrepresents the nature of the event and has the potential to mislead the public.
